The Conch of
Secrets Project
A Creative Challenge - for You
(For children and also adults who are in contact with the child they
once were)
If you are interested in what children of five can achieve you are invited to take part in this exciting project.
The project centers on a well known and very creative person: Colette Aboulker-Muscat, who would be 100 years old on January 28, 2009, the date when we shall publicize the project, which is based on the initial four chapters of a book "The Conch of Secrets" by Tamar Bergman (Jerusalem). It is about Colette's childhood. You can read the material (which is Copyrighted) via a link on this site.
Colette was born in Algeria in 1909 and was a remarkable little girl. You may find it challenging to follow her thoughts and actions when she was a five year old child at the outbreak of World War I (1914). In the book Colette is a great grandmother in Israel in the 1990-s who answers questions of her granddaughter Tali.We are organizing an international contest and invite you to submit a written, painted or musical rendition of your feelings and thoughts about what you read, or a 3-4 minute video reflecting your thoughts and reactions to the posted material. We would also welcome translations of these chapters, especially Chapter 4. You may submit material in Hebrew, English, French, Russian or Arabic.
If you have preliminary material that you can send by January 25, 2009 we may be able to present it at the January 28 birthday event.
Material submitted by September 1, 2009 will be evaluated and some or all of it will be included on the project's Web site and presented at Colette's death anniversary in October 2009 (in Jerusalem)
Even before you embark on this project we suggest taking the time to respond to the following two questions, after you read the four chapters of "The Conch of Secrets" posted on the Web site.
a. Do you find anything remarkable about the way Colette the child thinks and acts in the chapter?
b. What are your feelings and thoughts about the episode with the German pilot?
